Let's learn a little more about the fun and talented Amanda Howard, shall we?!
Q: How did you become interested in Pilates?
A: I found Pilates when I was 12 years old at the School of Nashville Ballet. Every Saturday we were required to take a Pilates mat class before ballet. It wasn't until college and when I moved to NYC that I really began to love Pilates. Then when I began dancing professionally in Chicago, I saw Pilates change my body and it really helped me be a better, stronger dancer and I rarely had injuries!
Q: What is your favorite thing about teaching Pilates?
A: When I see a client understand his/her body in a new way. Pilates can allow us to access movement by using imagery and help us better understand the mechanics of the body. When something "clicks" with a client, to me, THAT is the BEST part about teaching Pilates.
Q: What has been challenging for you during your Pilates journey?
A: Not knowing enough. I know that there will always be something more to learn and I just want to know it all! However, the "not knowing enough" is what also keeps me interested and curious.
Q: Do you have any advice for others who may want to start their own small business?
A: Learn to say "No" when you need to and say "Yes" to what really inspires you or what you have time for. Try not to over extend yourself, your time is money, and stay organized and true to what you want your business to be about. Most importantly, do not compare yourself to others.
Q: What’s your favorite thing to do in Nashville? (besides teach Pilates, of course)
A: Going hiking with my family and being outdoors (when it's not a million degrees). I also love exploring the new restaurants in town, because there seems to be a new one opening up all the time.
Q: What is the last book you read?
A: I am currently reading "The Oregon Trail" by Rinker Buck. It's a nonfiction story about the author who rode the Oregon Trail from beginning to end in a covered wagon as the Pioneers did. It's a very good book!
Q: Okay, share some inside scoop about yourself? Any random skills, hobbies or interests?
A: I love to take pictures. I guess you could say that I am an amateur photographer. I have a nice Cannon 7D with fancy lenses, yet I seem to prefer my iPhone these days as a busy mom. I also love to organize and decorate. If I could pick another career it would definitely be an interior decorator/stylist for small businesses or for magazines.
