Many of you already know Hannah the country music singer/songwriter (and if you don't, check her out pronto!), but how many of your know Hannah the Pilates instructor?! Well, this creative lady has a lot to offer in the Pilates studio...
Q: How did you become interested in Pilates?
A: I first found Pilates touring as a musician on the road. The road life leaves your body starving for any kind of movement without a lot of structure, time or tools to do so. I found a couple of studios that would happen to be near the hotel I would be staying at and was amazed at how much better it made me feel. I got off the road for a period of time and a friend posted online about a new studio opening in our neighborhood. I immediately went over to visit and fell in love with the owner. She told me she had a teacher training starting in two weeks and the rest is history.
Q: What is your favorite thing about teaching Pilates?
A: I love how Pilates heals and sustains health in the body, mind and spirit alike. So many forms of medicine these days address symptoms and are not intended to heal the root of the problem. I am also a big believer in preventative medicine, and Pilates is one of the best forms of it I have ever found. It is so easy to apply it to your life, as well. Whether it's something you add to your weekly activities or it's all you do coupled with cardio, Pilates can do nothing but benefit your life and abilities.
Q: What has been challenging for you during your Pilates journey?
A: Practicing what I preach :). I was warned, and it's true - as an instructor it takes a lot of discipline to make time to be given to after you give so much.
Q: Do you have any advice for others who may want to start their own small business?
A: My Mammaw always says, “Do something you enjoy and are passionate about and success will follow. Not the other way around.”
Q: What’s your favorite thing to do in Nashville? (besides teach Pilates, of course)
A: I love to perform and play music. I have been a country music singer/songwriter professionally since the 9th grade. Other than that, I am probably hanging out with my niece and nephews who live here (feel so lucky), eating lots of food at a local hang with my best friend and husband, Justin, or cuddling with my gremlin fox jumping bean Papillon, Emmylou.
Q: Okay, share some inside scoop about yourself? Any random skills, hobbies or interests?
A: I didn’t do a lot of sports growing up because I lived in the country. So instead, I barrel raced and pole bended at horse shows with my mom. Horses are a still a huge passion of mine and since moving to Nashville, it has been a goal to figure out how to start riding again on a consistent basis. I also enjoy red wine and the darkest chocolate I can find on the daily.
